Gallery News for January 11, 2008

If you're looking for a unique, one-of-a-kind Valentine, head to the Arts Alliance Gallery for its 3rd Annual For the Love of Art show and silent auction. From Jan. 11 through Jan. 25, the gallery will feature Valentine-themed art created by invited artists and friends of the Arts Alliance. The silent auction runs for the duration of the exhibit with proceeds benefiting the Arts Alliance. Items are valued at no more than $214.08 (2/14/08). The public is invited to place bids anytime during the two week exhibit and to attend the closing reception on Friday, Jan. 25, 5-8pm. Final bids will be taken at 7:15pm and successful bidders can claim their art that evening.

In conjunction with Pop Art Now: Paintings by David Koch, Stacy Hawkinson, Johnny Taylor and Sculpture by Ed Haddaway, David Koch will talk about his artwork and his video Cry-Baby in a gallery talk Saturday, Jan. 19, 1pm. The show runs until January 26.

Ask an Indian at Sumner and Dene Gallery downtown is an event designed to answer questions from the general public that they may have about indigenous peoples of America (Native Americans). There are many false representations of who we are and how we are depicted in history. The evening is presented by ANATV - All Native Alliance-Teaching Voices, Inc. in coordination with UCLA and Bellermine University in Kentucky. There will be blog access available during the event and questions from the audience other than those present will be answered. Panelists including working professionals in the areas of eduction, law enforcement, policy development, legislative affairs and health. The event will be Tuesday, January 15, 6-9pm.
